:  a band of smooth muscle extending from the junction of the duodenum and jejunum to the left crus of the diaphragm and functioning as a suspensory ligament

Biographical Note for LIGAMENT OF TREITZ

Treitz, Wenzel (1819–1872), Austrian physician. Treitz was a professor of anatomy and pathology at Krakow and later at Prague. In 1857 he rendered a classic description of the suspensory ligament of the duodenum which is now known as the ligament of Treitz.
